Welcome To Athlone Golf Club

Athlone Golf Club was established in 1933 and is situated on Windsor Park Golf Course, off Masabalala Yengwa Avenue (NMR Avenue) in Durban. Windsor Park Golf Course is a public course neighbouring the world renowned Durban Country Club course.

Since March 2015 the course maintenance has been taken over by Leitch Landscapes who were instrumental in the construction of the renowned Zimbali golf course on the Zimbali Golf Estate. They maintain such renowned courses as Wild Coast Sun, Zimbali and Fish River Sun, and we at Athlone Golf Club are looking forward to the changes and improvements that we can expect in the future of the Windsor Park Golf Course, with their expertise and enthusiasm.

When Athlone Golf Club was established in 1933 the first club house was situated behind the 15th green. It used to be the 18th green way back then, but quite a few big changes were made to the course over the years, leaving us with the exciting layout that we have today. In the 1970's the council built a clubhouse behind the 10th green. Athlone Golf Club used the facility as their home base until they built their own clubhouse in 1996 overlooking the 18th green.

There is a Club competition every Saturday and during the week Athlone Golf Club hosts the Brian Angel School on Tuesdays and an afternoon "Chicken Run" on Fridays. The "Chicken run" is a 9-hole fun competition to loosen you up for the Saturday competition.

Windsor Park Golf Course is an extremely challenging course, especially from the championship tees and careful course management is required to keep your score down. The course is very well laid out next to the Umgeni River, with plenty of trees and water to keep you focused!
